Busta Rhymes & J Dilla — DILLAGENCE II OUT NOW

Nearly 20 years after the original Dillagence, Busta Rhymes and the late, legendary J Dilla reconnect on DILLAGENCE II, a 19-track project built around Dilla’s unreleased production. Released August 25 through The Conglomerate Inc., the album brings together Busta’s unmistakable energy with some of the most distinctive production in hip-hop history, continuing a creative relationship that dates back to the ’90s.

The guest list is stacked, with appearances from D’Angelo, Lil Wayne, Common, Big Sean, Anderson .Paak, Ludacris, Talib Kweli, T3 of Slum Village, Jon Batiste, C.S. Armstrong, Honey Bxby, La Reezy, Cie, Trillian and Watch The Duck. The album also features a particularly special contribution from D’Angelo on “This Woman,” built around material from a long-ago J Dilla and D’Angelo session.

Production is led overwhelmingly by J Dilla, with additional production from Black Milk, Kev Brown, Karriem Riggins and Koal Harrison. The album feels less like a conventional posthumous release and more like a continuation of a partnership that never really ended. Busta Rhymes has previously revealed that Dilla left him with hundreds of beats,(probably 300+) and DILLAGENCE II finally opens another chapter of that vault.

With Dilla’s signature off-kilter rhythms meeting Busta Rhymes’ veteran mic presence, DILLAGENCE II delivers a rare collision of past and present — a project rooted in classic real Hip Hop.
